Experience

Prior to founding an independent consultancy, Ian was Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at one of Canada’s largest quaternary care hospitals, Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto (1995-2002).  As a Director of the Sunnybrook Hospital-Dynacare Laboratories joint venture he worked with a multidisciplinary team to plan and implement major operational changes in clinical laboratory medicine, while maintaining administrative and financial accountability for Sunnybrook Hospital’s clinical laboratory medical staff and laboratory operational budget ($32M/yr). 

As a member of the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine from 1986 to 2004, Ian published over 100 scientific articles and 14 book chapters, edited one book, made over 90 oral research presentations (several international) and received millions of dollars in peer-reviewed research funding from Canada’s major health research agencies for over 17 consecutive years.  Ian Dubé was the scientific director of the first Canadian human clinical trial of gene transfer.

Ian’s honours include the Canadian Association of Pathologists’ Scientist Award (1993) for the cloning and characterization of a new gene involved in human leukemia, and the Distinguished Service Award of the Department of Pathology, University of Toronto (1996).

In 1999 Ian attained the rank of full professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto.
